Not too long ago, I wrote about Freecycle, a site that lets you get rid of things you don’t need to people who want them. It’s a great way to keep unwanted items out of landfills.
Another similar site is Swaptree. The difference is that at Swaptree, you can list books, cd’s, dvd’s, and video games that you’ve had enough of and Swaptree will then give you a list of items that you can trade them for. It’s your choice. All you need to do is pay for the shipping costs of your item, which often never exceed $2.50.
Swaptree will even help you out by letting you print accurate postage and mailing labels right from their site so you don’t need to calculate the weight and shipping for the items your trading. Then just place your item in an envelope and drop it into a mailbox. It couldn’t be easier!

I just recently discovered paperbackswap.com, which sound similar but is just for books, although they do have sister sites for DVDs and CDs. You post what you have, and you can swap them with people for books you want. When shipping out your books, you can print labels with postage, and the site includes directions on how to wrap the book using just the two pieces of paper you print out from your computer. Drop it in your mailbox and voila!
Sara,
Thanks for listing this site you found!

I’ve used swaptree for a year. It’s a brilliant site. Spread the word.
(Gave up on paperbackswap. Swaptree is WAY more innovative!)
